Assessment Piece Of Work

Signifiers for genre

Learning Outcome:
To explore how mise-en-scene manipulates audiences by creating expectations.

Image 1
In he first slide of the Sherlock Holmes he looks to be in a city museum or a giant structure alike to the right of the picture you can see a lion this symbols power and pride plus British colonialism, the power of the country that beholds them. The costume he is wearing is very 1800’s because of the lack of colour and vibrancy in his costume as a whole also the hats that are out-dated in a style sense they look like working class men, maybe a Policeman or some one with the same stance of authority. The colours used in the scene are quite bland and naturalistic and represent permanence especially the pillars in the background they represent foundation and strength from the bottom up like they are upholding something like a connotation maybe of British society also shown by the lion in the lower right corner of the picture.
Image 2
In the next picture they look to be set in a church, we are shown this as there is a tall candle in the back of the image and a hint of purple from the off screen character (purple connotating high priests and members of the monarch in Britain). They look as if they look to be in mid conflict and then be shying away from a priest type figurehead, as no one would hit a priest. Again the costume is very 1800’s and preppy this time almost as if they were at an event to then continues on to a mission of sorts. They also look to be being cautious around whoever or wherever they may be.
Image 3
In the third graphic it is on what looks like to me a industrial street market setting shun with high key lighting the black market looking set again represents us to the 1800’s looks as in the previous graphics. His face and body shows us he is interested in the 18th century style pocket watch and the man behind him looks like he has just seen maybe a mark of somebody owning the watch or the sign of the manufacturer. the hint of blue shows the mid frame characters have a more relative importance than the other extras in the frame also showing they have authority either over all and or just over the object.
Image 4
The fourth graphic is interesting there is a rebrand high key light shining straight on to him like a spotlight he looks to have got into a fight club of sorts and due to the men surrounding him on the edge of the “arena” I think he has not paid somebody back or something along them lines. His body and facial expression show us his nerves, he looks scared like he has to fight a seven-foot man again maybe one of the men he has not repaid for a loan. Due to all the men behind him and there costumes I can almost be certain now t is set in the eighteen hundreds to early nineteen hundreds.
Image 5
On the fifth image Sherlock has a low key light shun form the left of the image. Sherlock (man in the middle) is looking to either be smuggling in something that is not allowed or the woman, the woman looks concerned by what may be getting said, it may be about her and she doesn’t agree with what he maybe saying. The an on the left is looking at Sherlock as if to say “Are you serious” like Sherlock is going to do something that can get him arrested or eve killed this would explain the expression on the woman’s face. The woman looks innocent due to the white shirt but is heavily pampered with make up this suggests that she could be well known or just wont to look nice to get some attention from men.
Image 6
On the last graphic the image uses a backlight from the window but has a high key lighting all-round. By Sherlock’s body language it suggests they have just finished something that had great strain on his body the way he is leaning back represents he is relaxed, but contrary with that is his facial expression to me It show that he has had another idea for a straining mission. His attire this time is very again relaxed top few buttons undone and his hat off unlike the man on the left he looks eager but not bothered at the same time.

Laura Mulvey

Laura Mulvey Male Gaze

Learning Outcome: To explore the theory of The Male Gaze as set out by Laura Mulvey.

Key word: Objectification

Women:

The representation of women in the media has developed and adapted to reflect cultural and socialogical changes. As women's roles in society have undergone a transformation, this has been reflected in some areas of the media.
However, there are still some stereotypical representations of women where they are defined by how men see them and how society expects them to look and behave.
Women still tend to be judged on their looks and appearance foremost.
Representations tend to concentrate also on their sexuality; emotions and narratives tend to be based around relationships.

The way in which the representation of women is constructed in texts like glamour magazines is unrealistic and instills unattainable aspiration in the audience.
In an examination response it is important that you explore the representation of gender at a sophisticated level and go beyond basic discussion of positive and negative, it is much more complex than that.

Who Framed Rodger Rabbit Scene Analysis
in the scene of who framed Rodger Rabbit the cartoon woman Jessica Rabbit represents a very provocative and invitational individual this opens for theories like Marjorie's and Mulvey's.
Her pink out fit shows off her flirtatious nature before she even comes fully out of the curtain. Her plumped red lips also show off her invitational character.

Marjorie Ferguson

In this image Amanda Seyfried demonstrates the chocolate box expression well as her lips are placed together, showing she is not very interested in any activity but if you try hard enough you might get lucky. usually showcased by the shy girl/ enclosed individual.

In this magazine Mila Kunis is in the invitational pose looking over the shoulder with heavy eye makeup, she is covering her mouth while standing in front of a sign saying "sexiest women". not just the pose of the women determines what they want the whole image is the main give away. not to mention the amount of skin she is showing is obviously excessive.
